With the recent spike in the price of oil, many people are investing in alternative forms of energy, and one of those forms is biofuel. Biofuel itself isn’t actually a single type of fuel, but a category that contains many different types of alternative fuels. There are many different types of biofuels, from biodiesel, biogas, solid biofuels, syngas, vegetable oil, green diesel and bioalcohols. All of them have their advantages and disadvantages, but they all work using the same principal. Most biofuels have a little bit of ethanol added to them to increase the effectiveness, but some biofuels are made entirely from biomass and are, therefore, totally renewable. Below you will find some of the reasons why using biofuels are a great choice versus using traditional gasoline.

They are Cheaper than Gasoline

Biofuels are almost always cheaper than gasoline, meaning you can purchase more if without having to shell out more money. This is great for those that have a long commute or drive a lot each day, but don’t want to pay so much money for fuel.

They are Renewable

This is probably the best benefit about biofuels. Since they are renewable, you will never have to worry about them running out, as there is always a source for them. Since biofuels are made from renewable biomass such as algae, corn and alcohol, there will always be biofuels around.

No Pollution/Less Pollution

Biofuels almost always emit no pollution, although some that have ethanol mixed in do have a bit of pollution, but not nearly as bad as straight gasoline. They are great for the environment and you can feel great knowing that you are making the Earth a better place for you and your children and are making a difference.

Biofuels are a great alternative to gasoline because they are cheaper, cause less pollution and are a renewable form of energy, which means they will never run out. Despite the benefits, only about 1.8% of the world’s transportation vehicles run on biofuel, although in 2007 there was $4 billion of investment into biofuels.

With heating costs going up every year, many Americans are finding themselves in a bit of a money pinch. There are many ways to help lower bills to make them more affordable, and most things you can simply change around your home are also good for the environment and should been done anyways! Here are four ways to lower your bills at home, and run a more responsible household:

1) The washing machine. Only run your machine with full loads, if the load must be washed before make sure to adjust to a smaller load size setting. If the garments to be washed are not very dirty use a very small amount of detergent and set to a lighter wash setting that features fewer cycles. Most detergent now can clean clothes well on a cold water setting, you do not have to wash on warm or hot settings. These tips will reduce your gas bill for the water heater, reduce the electric bill for your washer and reduce your water bill and overall consumption. The average cost savings of homes switching their laundry to cold water only is over $50 per year!

2) The dishwasher. A light rinse beforehand makes dishes come clean much easier in the dish washer. Only run it when it is full, but fill it properly do not load in a manner that obstructs items from being cleaned. This is a common problem that causes items to be washed twice. Also, if you have time, or don’t have clear glass, you don’t need to power dry. This will also help with the water, gas and heat bill, although on a smaller level. The average home can save over $20 a year running their dishwasher properly.

3) Heat and Air Conditioning. For those rooms that are not used often, make sure that you seal the vent. You can even be able to shut off a redirect shutter closer to the heater fan and AC compressor. This is much more effective than just closing the floor vents – which still leak when closed. The closer to the main fan that you can eliminate the waste, the bigger difference you will see in your bill. You can even buy remote controlled ceiling fans than feature a heater built in. They work well for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter, and they work quickly. These tips can often save a hundred dollars a month or more!

4) Water Heater. On average, 15% of your home energy bill goes to heating water. This can be reduced drastically by replacing a worn out water heater with a tankless heater. A tankless heater only heats water as it is needed. You may give up a bit of heat –although the newest models are getting much better, but you will save a lot of green! Expect savings of 7.5%. Also, just by taking shorter showers and running faucets and spigots less, reducing your bill over 10% is easily achieved.

There are many more tips to lowering your bills and to free up more cash without raising your income. Your home and lifestyle are generally the two largest items that can be changed to improve your comfort and quality of life.

Banking online can be a fantastic way to save you time and even money. Most large banks now offer online banking or online account access, and for the most daring: some banks are only available online. With the latest in web safety, these sites are heavily encrypted and designed to be hack-proof. The largest cause of accounts being hacked into actually falls upon the account holders. There are several simple steps that can be taken to avoid your account, money, and personal information being put at risk. Some may seem simple, but it is better to be safe!

1) Never give out your username or password. Your bank will not ask you for your password or even username. They already have it. They will not lose it, and only a very select group of employees can even access it. If you think you need to address this issue, call them at the number your normally call, do not take the phone number off an email or a website, look in the phone book or just stop in at your local branch.

2) If you access your accounts from more than one computer, be sure that computers used by others have up-to-date antivirus software. You should also make sure that the machine is running an up to date browser that can support the standard 128-bit encryption used by most secure websites. When you are done, always be sure to log off and even clear the Auto complete bar also, it can make it too easy for someone to log in and guess your password.

3) A good password in very important, also, using more than one password can be just as valuable. If a hacker, worm, or virus is to get into your computer and find a password, they will try that same password in all of your cached login areas. It also helps drastically to use letters and numbers. Birthdays, pet names, and nicknames also tend to be easiest to guess.

4) Never trust any email sent to you that links directly to your login page. This is the number one trick for hackers to “cloak” or “phish” you out of your own private information. Even though the site looks like the site you are familiar with, it may not be. These thieves have become experts at copying the look of real sites with their own copies designed to extrapolate victim’s bank numbers and more!

By following these steps, you can be confident that your identity and information is still yours and still protected. There are thousands of people and programs trying to steal your information, but you have plenty of tools, people and strategies on your side also! Go ahead save yourself some time and gas money!
